Time Management Update

This is how our group has planned out our time for the remaining of Decemeber and throughout January. However it isn't very likely that we are going to stick to our plan. This is because we have had some set backs. Whilst editing our video, we decided that we didn't like the performace element of it. Therefore we our going with our orginal plan off Jess being our performer. It has been difficult finding time to do this filming, which has therefore made us behind on our schedule.

CD Album Advert Analysis: Ed Sheeran

The close-up of Ed Sheeran on this album advert is a rather redundant feature. We expect to see close-ups of artists, this is because it promotes them and allows the audience to see whose album it is. The use of the colour orange makes the advert very eye-catching and draws the audience into the read the details of the advert too. The use of font on the advert also helps to promote Ed Sheeran, this is beacuse his name and the album name are in the largest and boldest font. This draws the audience's eye and it will be the first thing they read, and they should therefore remember the main details so they can go and buy the album. The only other feature that is on this advert is where people can buy it from. The very few details on the advert don't overwhelm people with information, so they are more likely to read it. The fact that it says "click to buy now" suggets that this is an online advert which means that it is being advertised to more people.

CD Album Advert Analysis: Birdy

birdy-album-i7.JPG.jpg

The mise en scene used for this album advert fits in with the conventions of the genre. This is because Birdy is wearing quite "vintage" and almost edgy clothing. This is quite redundant within this genre. The pale/neutral colours used for the background of the advert connote a sense of calm and quiet, and this could suggest to the audience that this is the sort of music that may be on the album.

The layout of the advert is very simple and easy to follow. This will appeal to the target audience as it is straight to the point, it states the artist, songs, release date and where the album is available from. This is another redundant feature of this genre as they don't tend to overwhelm the audience with information.

The details included on this advert are where the album is available from and the release date. The release date is emphasized more than than where it is available from, as it has a bigger font size. The name of the artist catches the audiences eye first, this is to make sure that the artist is being promoted to the audience straight away.

Time Management Update

Over this week I am going to be carrying out research on artists magazine adverts and digipaks, in order to help me when I come to produce one of my own. Although are group should be editing our video, we are planning to re-film the perfomance aspect, therefore we are putting off editing until that is completed.

Audience Feedback Focus Group

Today we carried out a focus group to get some audience feedback on the rough cut of our music video. We asked four people who fit in to our target audience to be in our focus group. This is the video showing their answers.

The questions we asked our focus group were:

Why do you think this video is appropriate for our genre?

Do you feel you can relate with the artist and why?

Do you think the video appeals to our target audience and why?

Are there any improvements that can be made?

Do you have any other suggestions or comments?

Rough Cut

This is the rough cut for our music video. Although all members of our groups are happy with this cut, we all still feel that there are some changes that need to be made to it. We need to edit the video to fit the lyrics and we also need to add effects too. This should then appeal to our target audience a lot more.

Editing Update

Today we finished carrying out our editing process. We have now finished our editing. Although we need to add in the music to make it a cleaner edit/cut. We also need to add effects to some parts of our music video.

This is just one of the many screen shots we took whilst editing our music video

Time Management Update

This is how our group has organised our time during the end of November and throughout December.

Filming Update

Our group has now finished filming. However for the performance element, our performer, Jess, wasn't able to be in the video. Therefore a member of our group, Grace, is now the main performer in the video. We are now starting to edit our music video.

Creativity

What is creativity?

This is the use of the imagination or original ideas, esp. in the production of anartistic work. It is a way to turn creative thoughts into reality.

How can you be more creative?

In order to be more creative, you will need creative thinking and to come up with new ideas. By creating things such as mind maps, this should help you develop new ideas. To help refresh your mind and creativity you can do simple things like taking breaks and having naps. Anybody can be
creative if they put their mind to it.

Where does creativity come from?

Everybody has the ability to be creative. Many new ideas and inventions all come from creativity.  In able to come up with creative ideas you need to have a fresh mind. Also by doing research into things that inspire you, this helps develop creative ideas.

What role does it play in creating a media production?

Generally the more creative a media product is, the more interested people will be in to buy it. Also the more people who are interested in the product, the more popular it will be with the public. If the media product is creative then it is more than likely to be a new and unique idea and will therefore interest more people. Therefore when we created our music video we made sure that our creative ideas were unique.

Audience Theory

How might audiences read the values expressed in your video and print work in a preferred, negotiated and oppositional way?

I think that the majority of audiences will read the values expressed in our video and print work in a preferred way. The reason for this is that the song by Nina Nesbitt "Glue"is quite quirky also it sounds very original and vintage. Therefore we have incorporated this in our video so the audience gets a sense of the quirkiness and the vintage feel.

What are you going to do to encourage the target audience to take a preferred reading?

To make sure that our target audience reads our music video in a preferred way, we are making the video quirky by the use of editing and matching the lyrics with the acting in the video. We have also created the vintage feel by the props and costumes that are used/worn throughout the video. To create the quirkiness our editing will be quite jumpy and fast to fit in with the song. The sort of props will be using are a cream vintage phone, an old snakes and ladders board game as well as vintage looking cupcakes.

What kind of person might take an oppositional reading?

The kind of people who might take an oppositional reading of our music video, will most likely be the older generation. These people will most likely be between the ages of 40-60. Also men are more likely to take an oppositional reading as they aren't very likely to understand the concept of the video and how  it fits in with the song.

Filming Update

Me and my group have been busy filming our music video the past 2 weeks, and next week we should be finished. As we have been filming I haven't had time to put a post up stating what we are up to.

Time Management Update

This is how me and my group have planned out our work for this month. Most of it consists of filming our music video.

Costume Ideas

We have chosen these style of clothes for our music video to appeal to our target audience. These are the types of clothes that many teenage girls where today. We are mixing vintage style clothes with the more edgy style clothes. Overall the two styles mixed together should create a quirky look which will fit in well with the quirkiness of the song and our music video.

Risk Assessment

Locations

Ludlow Assembly Room

We have chosen the assembly rooms for the performance element of our video. Our main singer, Jess, will perform on the stage with a guitar.

Around Ludlow

We have chosen the streets around Ludlow to film our narrative parts for our music video. We will use numbers around ludlow e.g. house numbers for some parts of the narrative. this should appeal to our target audience as it is quite quirky. We got our inspiration to do this from the London Olympics countdown.

Performers and Casting

Props

Our group has created a table to help with our organisation. It allows us to see who is getting what props. Therefore there is no confusion about who is getting what.

Research and Planning: Analysis of Redundant and Entropic Features

Redundant Features:

Redundant features are things that we expect to see- normal everyday things. Examples of some redundant features in Coldplay “Paradise” are:

·         Elephant behind bars- this is redundant as it looks like it is in a zoo. This is a typical elephant’s habitat.

·         Link between lyrics and video- Goodwin’s theory- the lyrics on cardboard. Makes a connection between the song and music video. This is redundant as this link is seen in many music videos.

·         Elephant eating peanuts- this is redundant as elephants are known to like peanuts.

·         Elephant walking in the wild- this is redundant as it is a natural habitat for an elephant.

·         Instruments in video- typical of this genre of music and therfore makes it redundant.

·         Band performing together- this is redundant as it sells the band.

Entopic Features:
Entropic features are things that we don’t expect to see- things that aren’t normal and seem weird. Examples of some entropic features in Coldplay “Paradise” are:

·         Band is dressed up as elephants- this is entropic as we don’t expect to see the band dressed up as elephants in their video.

·         Elephant drawing- this is not expected as elephants aren’t able to draw.

·         Elephant using the underground- this is entropic as this isn’t an elephant’s natural habitat.

·         Elephant on a plane- this is entropic as this isn’t an elephant’s natural habitat either.

·         Elephant riding a bike and a unicycle- this is very entropic as you would not expect to see an elephant riding a bike and/ or a unicycle.
